In winter, the mountains and hills of Skye provide for all levels of challenge. Winter days are full of magical views of snow and sea in close proximity. You can choose from winter hill walking in the red Cuillin or day-long introductory courses to the Cuillin. If you have more experience, then set yourself a winter ridge or climbing challenge. We will provide you with ice axes, crampons and any other gear you might require on request. We also operate in Glen Shiel, Torridon and even further afield on the mainland if you prefer to explore outwith Skye.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The winter season on Skye can run from October to April, and being so close to the sea means that conditions are variable. The Cuillin becomes a true wilderness in this period, so if you are looking for adventure, then we can provide it. Previous hill-walking experience and - at the very least - basic hill clothing are essential. We will provide the rest of the technical equipment. Days out in winter are long and the bags are heavy, so a good level of fitness is useful.
These courses will teach you the basic skills for travelling safely in the Scottish winter environment. We will cover navigation, moving safely on winter terrain, safe route choice and everything necessary for you to confidently tackle the Scottish hills in winter.
